ALPFA Boston in the face of COVID-19, a Letter from President Mario Rivera

by Mario Rivera

Dear ALPFA Boston Members,

This has most definitely been an unusual and challenging time. We know that those in our ALPFAmilia have been and will continue to be impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19), an unfortunate pandemic. It’s important for you to know that ALPFA Boston is here to support you and the community. Please let us know of any difficult situation you are in and we’ll use the power of ALPFA to improve your situation. Reach out to ALPFA at admin@boston.alpfa.org or to me personally at mario.rivera@boston.alpfa.org.

In addition, our (all volunteer) board is working tirelessly to understand the best way to leverage the tools at our disposal to continue upholding our ALPFA mission. Our commitment remains providing opportunities for professional development, community engagement, and networking. How are we doing that?

Employment Opportunities – Due to the closure of many small businesses, people have lost their jobs and we want to help. Based on conversations with our corporate partners, their recruitment process is continuing and therefore they remain committed to attracting Latino talent through ALPFA. Please reach out to us at admin@boston.alpfa.org if you are seeking or know someone seeking a job opportunity so we can help.

Curated Content via Webinars – Through our network of committed professionals and partners, we will launch a series of webinars that provide the usual professional development material that you would normally receive at our events throughout the year. For instance, while employers are still hiring, do you know how to adjust to the new video interviews?

E-Mixers / Virtual Happy Hours – We will invite members to connect virtually, as to promote continued social interaction among the #ALPFAmilia.

Connecting Resources – as community partners reach out to us we will share resources that may be helpful, like the State Department’s Town Hall on Unemployment Assistance. In addition, we are looking for opportunities for you to volunteer with community organizations that are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we continue to adjust to our current reality, more opportunities to support you will arise. Reach out to us with any ideas and/or your interest in supporting ALPFA. Please continue to take this situation seriously so that we can protect the people we care about.

Un Abrazo (Virtual),

Mario Rivera

ALPFA Boston President
